Hey, some people like Vanilla, but not Chocolate. Others like Chocolate, but not Vanilla. Some like both. Luckilly, there is variety and they are not the same.

Well, i suppose its only normal to expect things like GW vs WoW on a GW fansite forum. When games gets compared to the big boys like WoW it goes to show that there is indeed some serious competition for the player's buck.
I bet on WoW's forums they probably have threads like:
-WoW vs ARCHLORD, OMGZ WE SO PWNS THEM!!11-
-WoW vs Hello Kitty Island Adventures, The Exodus

I don't like the low polygon count in WoW. It makes everything look like "Little People" from Fisher Price. (Yes, I have kidlets.)
Personally, I am just waiting for D3.... (Yeah, I'm not gonna hold my breath or anything.....)

Leave Hello Kitty out of this please.
From what i've seen and heard about WoW pvp only opens up at lvl 60, this is a rumour that some of the high ranked pvp players of wow do have to play on a pretty constant basis for months on end, and then there massive raids normally have quite abit of down time before starting.
Guild wars does have some down times and some odd player builds in pve but we/re not waiting to long for anything execpt maybe gold drops or a res.
By down time I mean teams talking to one another.

I disagree partly about a point in your argument. Guild Wars may be easy to pick up at first, but the "high-level" PvP has quite a steep learning curve involved.
Of course, WoW has an extremely steep have-to-have-leet-equip-to-PvP curve, so it may take even more time in WoW to prepare for PvP...

WoW never interested me oddly enough. I have played AO, CoH, NwN, SRO, FFXI, and some other ones that aren't even worth mentioning because they are little dinky "freebies" and were lame. But I liked aspects in all the ones I mentioned.
Personally, I absolutley love the fact that guild wars offers time for a life outside the game. I can't stand when I feel like I am doing chores on a video game. I also like the graphics better than something aimed at a 12 year old. Even though I love watching cartoons and animations of all kinds. Personally, I think what does it for me to not be interested in WoW the most is not any of this... well, maybe some of the first thing but also the fact that it is SO fantasy based. I am getting tired of thick fantasy, it is done way to often in RPGs. And then, everyone wants to be an elf.
I have plenty of heavy fantasy RPGs here at my house that at times can feel like I am doing chores on them and they are single player. I don't need one that is multi-player but I have no qualms with the people that do play it. Server count means little to me personally as well. It really means nothing. WoW having 50 times more people or whatever just means 50 x more jerks, 50 x more cool people, 50 x more idiots/noobs, etc. GW has plenty of people for me.
If you are comparing the two it will always be skewed because WoW is all about stats. GW is all about atmoshpere. I personally like atmosphere and don't care about stats. They are fun to look at but nothing more than that and they don't dictate my play ability for sure.
I don't know, I got my pre-order for Nightfall finally tonight too.

In World of Warcraft, you are either Stronger or Weaker than the people you see in the world.
In Guild Wars, you are equal.

I played WoW on a 14-day trial and just couldn't stand the graphics. Although it's a 3D game, the background seems static and flat making it feel almost 2D, and the building interior makes me feel claustrophobic. I also do not like the ugly cartoony toons and silly emotes, like laughing.
Also when people say WoW has 6 million ppl, each individual server has much less and people from one server cannot communicate or play with people from other servers, unlike in GW where ppl from different realms can still play together in the international districts.

That is an interesting view on it too. WoW may have more people but it is possible to play with more people on GW. In addition to this, I have heard that only something like 60% of the player count for WoW are subscribers. The rest are trials and people who will leave in a month or two. Sort of like they are cycling through a huge audience base and only picking some up here and there. I don't know how true that is but I have heard it on many occassions from entirely different sources.

Poor GW vs WoW horse it's been beaten even after death.
Anyways both games have pros and cons and it you take either game too seriously you might go a bit insane.
Don't beating the poor horse.

Why do people post CLOSE NOW MOD messages as replies? THey dont add anything to the discussion.
If you like the graphics for GW and hate the WoW ones, you should look at the early screenshots on Ganespot of GW. It'll make you laugh.
I'd prpbably play WoW if it werent for the subscription fee, and the gnomes. For some reason I just stand looking at them. So, yeah, I could see how WoW is a good gam, and I might actually enjoy it if I got into it, but the graphics, subscription fees and gnomes are a constant barrier between me and WoW.

Go see,i do..though i got a permanent ban..i think its because i said to much about a bot problem in WoW so i cant post no more..
I realy think blizzards attitude is going to bring WoW down one day,but without official forums i find it hard to say wether or not A-net suffers from the same, dousnt look like it though since most of you seem rather happy.
From first glance at a few topics i dont think WoW players are all that happy,on the other hand..its 6 million players..heh,good luck making them all happy.
I like Guild Wars better in some ways,Guild Wars is very diffrent from WoW,wich is its strength.

Pretty much sums up the discussion (like it or not).
Guid Wars and WoW are apples and oranges. Just because they're both fruit that come from trees does not make them particularly simular.
I wouldn't bash WoW; it has to be a great game to have such a fan base. I will say I don't like online fees. I always felt like I was renting a game i already bought
I also try not to bash GW. I don't like the direction Anet is taking with it (the addition of content outside of game purchase is against their original advertising campaign; Pay to Upgrade has largely settled the Online fee issue for me...one is as bad as the other.) but the game is fun for me; there's less feel that I need to play to get my money's worth out of it than I used to feel with Pay to Play MMOs.

Seriously, we DO NOT NEED ANOTHER WOW VS. GW DISCUSSION.
I understand if you want to discuss it if you hadnt been part of past discussions but really, most of us are sick of it. These threads always pop up over and over again.
And yes it's pointless.

this IS a forum, made for discussing things... so I'm a little confused by the point of the OP then? I understand what you're saying, they're different - so you can't really compare them... but I don't understand why you started a new thread for this?

ORAN,
Altough you clearly have put some thought in the matter, judging by the lenght of your post (haven't read all I confess), I find it a shame that you stir this ancient topic up again.
No good will come from it. It never did, and it never will.
